App Developed by Two ER Docs For Patients Helps Centura Health Tackle Population Health

March 25, 2015

2-CO ACO Home ScreenPeter Hudson and Wayne Guerra, emergency room physicians at Centura Health in Denver, saw that patients would often show up with minor problems that could have been treated at another type of care setting, and at a lower cost. They were inspired to create a mobile app, iTriage to give people tools to understand their symptoms and manage them appropriately.

“They had seen so many patients come through the ER either not knowing what they had at all, or potentially going there not realizing that they could have gone to another place of care like an urgent care or even a retail clinic,” says Dana Guilfoyle, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations at iTriage.

That was 2008. Today, iTriage has been downloaded 14 million times from iTunes and Google Play. The app was acquired by Aetna in 2011, and since then it has been evolving into a full-blown population health management tool. Centura Health is committed to making the shift from volume to value, and the app is part of the plan.
