Sven Gierlinger
Chief Experience Officer
Northwell Health
Sven Gierlinger, chief experience officer at Northwell health, drives cultural transformation across Northwell’s 28 hospitals while focusing on putting patients first. A previous hotel executive with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Mr. Gierlinger brings a unique perspective to customer service. However, his medical journey and personal patient experience—having spent months in the hospital battling Guillain-Barré syndrome—motivates him to disrupt the status quo in health care. From elevating hospital food to Michelin-star status, to harnessing technology and artificial intelligence to analyze patient and caregiver survey responses, Mr. Gierlinger keeps the pulse of Northwell’s patients and improves their experience every step of the way.
Recognized for his significant contributions to the field, Mr. Gierlinger was recognized in 2025 with the United Hospital Fund’s Excellence in Health Care Award for Quality Improvement Champions for their transformative work at Northwell Health. This follows their distinction as Press Ganey's HX24 CXO of the Year and a Global CX 100 recipient in 2024. His sustained leadership landed him consecutive placements on Becker’s Hospital Review’s “Hospital and Healthcare System Chief Experience Officers To Know" list in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Additionally, under Mr. Gierlinger’s guidance, Northwell Health received the American Culinary Federation’s prestigious ‘Culinary Excellence Award’ in March 2025. Sven is also an Executive Board member at The Beryl Institute.
