Web Takes … February 2014 Picks

There is nothing subtle about this site for a North Carolina provider. It generally doesn’t follow conventional navigation, and everything seems to be in the viewer’s face. But the site grabs attention to draw visitors in and forces them to pay attention.

The home page – in fact, numerous pages – consists of sizable boxed areas that include a heading in a large font in capital letters and clip art or a visual of an individual. Everything screams for attention, but remarkably, it’s all easy to digest. White space between boxed areas definitely helps.

No visitor to the home page can miss seeing the banner, which rotates messages about four services. One banner displays a photo of a woman’s midsection with a before and after view to promote gallbladder surgery. It has the enticing copy line, “Click to find the scar.” Another promotes joint replacement surgery with copy of various sizes and colors that has the site visitor’s eyes going from one bold statement to another. But most notable are two banners that direct visitors to infographics.

One infographic focuses on breast cancer awareness and the other on obesity. Each infographic presents informative and valuable content in the form of text, charts, and visuals. While everything, again, is oversized, content communication is effective and compelling. North Carolina statistics compared with national norms are included.

Navigational links to additional information and calls to action boost the impact of the infographics as well as all service pages. For example, the obesity infographic page has 14 links that cover information from surgical weight-loss videos and doctor bios to the surgical candidate process and making an appointment.
