RESOURCES
Vast Majority of Patients Unaware of Transition to Electronic Health Records, a Xerox survey of 2,009 adults finds. In this fourth annual survey, only 29 percent of those who have a doctor have been informed that their medical records will be converted to a digital format. This figure is just slightly higher than the 26 percent noted in last year’s survey. Currently only 19 percent of adults surveyed have access to their medical records online. Healthcare providers seeking to earn Meaningful Use Stage 2 incentives, which became available on October 1, have one year to make patient medical records available via an online portal. Importantly, they must have 5 percent of their patients actually access the data. That requirement is a big issue because the survey indicated that 83 percent of adults have concerns about EHRs, particularly from a security standpoint.
