iTriage App Helps Consumers Navigate Healthcare and Health Systems Manage Population Health
iTriage is a mobile health app for consumers gaining wide acceptance from providers as health systems move toward population health and value-based care. Created in 2008 by two Denver-based ER physicians, Peter Hudson and Wayne Guerra, iTriage has been downloaded by 14 million consumers from the iTunes and Google Play app stores, where it consistently earns ratings of 4.5–5 stars.
The founders were “inspired to create the app because they had seen so many patients come through the ER either not knowing what they had at all, or potentially going there not realizing that they could have gone to another place of care like an urgent care or even a retail clinic,” says Dana Guilfoyle, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations at iTriage.
Help for Consumers Navigating the Health System
The initial strategy was to drive downloads of iTriage to consumer iPhone or Android devices. The app was designed to make it easier for people to navigate the healthcare system. Health literacy and patient education were important objectives. Based on consumer queries, the app could address questions about symptoms and what they might mean, and guide patients to the right doctor in the right care setting.
