When Lucile Salter Packard founded Stanford Medicine Children’s Health in 1991, her vision was encapsulated in these words: “To heal humanity through science and compassion, one child and family at a time.”
Today, this vision is the organization’s North Star and the Web Services digital team’s guiding principle. According to Kishore Reddipeta, director of web systems and technologies at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, “Digital patient experience is an organizational-wide strategic imperative.”
“Several environmental factors impacted our digital transformation over the past 10 to 20 years,” says Reddipeta. “Healthcare moved from fee-for-service to value-based care. At the same time, a digital revolution was occurring, with Amazon, Google, Uber, and Netflix setting the course. Patients and families came to expect the same things from their healthcare providers as they had with other consumer products and services.”
In 2016, Standford Children’s embarked on an ambitious undertaking — to build the country’s most modern, technologically advanced hospital. “At this time, the web and mobile transformation initiatives also took off, focusing on enhancing the experience for our patients and their families by providing digital tools at every touchpoint throughout their care,” says Reddipeta.
