The term “digital front door” (DFD) first emerged in the mid-2010s and has become a central concept in the healthcare landscape. Associated initially with tools like online appointment scheduling, telehealth services, patient portals, and mobile apps, the DFD now represents much more — a strategic gateway that helps redefine patient experience.

During the 2023 eHealthcare Leadership Awards, the judges presented 15 awards in the Best Digital Front Door category. Winners were selected based on how effectively organizations combined tools and tactics into a comprehensive strategy to acquire new patients, improve access to services, and deliver excellent experiences.

An executive from the category sponsor — Phase2 — and three award recipients recently shared their knowledge and expertise in an eHealthcare Strategy & Trends webinar in August.
